Blue Geese & Snow Goose.

The original oil painting by Gary Moss, was selected from 202 entries as the winner of Minnesota's seventh annual Migratory Waterfowl Stamp Competition. This painting, as all of Gary's wildlife works, draws on his experiences as hunter, photographer and artist.

"Blue Geese and Snow Goose" is an accurate reflection of nature as inhabited by its creatures. The mood of the painting is achieved by the subtle grey and pastel hues of the sky and reflecting water, contrasted by the stark winter coloration of migrating blue and snow geese. The natural pinks of the bills and legs compliment the balance between subject and environment. The painting's composition and design merit everyone's attention.

Gary's reference for this painting included hunting and photographing the prairies of western Minnesota and Manitoba. His detailed bird studies were made from flocks of blue and snow geese living within metropolitan Minneapolis-Saint Paul.
