Whooping Cranes. (Grus americana).

The first Texas Nongame Stamp Print.

This magnificent bird takes its name from its penetrating, bugling voice. The Whooping Crane is a wary bird, with long legs and neck that permit it to see long distances across the marshes.

Wintering Whooping Cranes in small family groups can be readily seen at the Aransas National Refuge in Texas.

Money from the sale of collector stamps, decals, and royalties from art prints created by the Texas House Bill 1064 (TX Nongame & Endangered Species Conservation Fund) will be placed in the new Nongame Fund and administered by the Texas Parks & Wildlife Dept.
