The white-tailed hawk has been designated species in Texas by the US Fish & Wildlife Service.
Located in the coastal prairies and chaparral from Brownsville to Galveston, and the Trans-Pecos region of the state, it is one of the largest hawks, comparing in size to the red-tailed hawk.
