2002 Texas Saltwater - John Dearman - Stamp Print

Ranking third in popularity among Texas saltwater game fish to speckled trout and red drum, the southern flounder is still a favorite of coasteal anglers. Fishing fans value the flatfish for being a difficult targe and for being a prize on the dinner table.

Built for ambush rather than speed, flouder lie flat on the bottom, blending perfectly with their background, then dart after hapless prey that wanders too near the ambush.

The Texas Saltwater Stamp and Print continues to play a critical role in preserving and managing the state's marine resources. This phenomenal stamp and art program has helped raised well over $60 million to fund coastal fish hatcheries and law enforcement.

Native Texas John Dearman loves coastal fishing when he's not busy at his easel. Dearman double dipped this year's Texas conservation art, contributing paintings for both the Saltwater Stamp and the Turkey Stamp. Counting this year's work, Dearman's art has been featured on nine Texas conservation stamps.
