Speckled trout are the most popular game fish on the Texas coast. Thanks in part to proceeds from the Texas Saltwater Stamp & Print, trout are abundant in all Texas waters from the Louisiana border to the Mexico border.
"Specks" as they are often called, will readily strike an artificial lure or live bait. They are ubiquitous in coastal waters, chasing shrimp in the deep bays, using grass patches as ambush points in the shallows, cruising in huge schools around the deep jetties and along the beach front.
The Texas Saltwater Stamp & Print program continues to play a key role in the conservation of all marine resources. Since its inception, the program has raised nearly $70 million to help fund coastal fish hatcheries and increased law enforcement.
