2009 Upland Game Bird - James Hautman - Stamp & Print

Texas Upland Game Bird Stamp Print by Jim Hautman

Texas is well known for abundant bobwhite and scaled quail populations but a lesser-known species of quail is native to the state’s far western extremes. The Gambel’s quail is a desert bird with the males showing exquisite colors topped by a chestnut crown and a comma-shaped black plume. This species is named for William Gambel, an early field collector of California birds.

Jim Hautman, a Minnesota wildlife artist, is well known as a three-time winner of the Federal Duck Stamp contest but Hautman’s talents have often been displayed through Texas conservation art. This is his eighth contribution to the Texas program. Hautman hails from a family of artists. His brothers, Joe and Jim, have also won the Federal Duck Stamp contest and are key players in wildlife conservation art.

The edition will be limited to the number of wholesale orders received by June 30, 2009, but in no event will the edition be less than 1,050. Shipment of prints is expected by the fall of 2009.
