Keith studied commercial art and industrial design at the Johannesburg School of Art. After a few years as an illustrator, he decided to paint full time and spend as much time as possible in the African bush.
Joubert works in oil, watercolours, mixed media, and bronze sculptures. His subject matter is of wildlife, with particular emphasis on the atmosphere of the natural habitat. He often depicts the full cycle of life starting
with smaller organisms, through to the more complex relationship between man and his environment, seeking to dissect and unite the entire ecosystem.
Joubert currently lives between the Selati Game Reserve, in the lowveld, adjacent to Kruger National Park in South Africa, where he has an outdoor studio overlooking a waterhole. From here he travels extensively to the wildlife areas of Botswana, East Africa and Mozambique.
His work is conceived and painted close to nature in the wilderness, as far as possible from the trappings of city life. While in the field, Joubert keeps extensive notes and sketches. Returning to his studio he combines these ideas into a more complex statement on the intricacies of his surroundings - breaking away from the formal and traditional conceptions of natural history art.
Keith is now an important and highly successful artist who's work hangs in corporate and private collection internationally, following solo exhibitions around the world, including Johannesburg, France, Texas, London
and most recently, Reno, Nevada in February 2002.
