Tim Shinabarger

Born in 1966 in Great Falls, Montana, Tim Shinabarger has lived and worked in the American West thoughout his entire life. A taxidermist and wilderness ranger, he turned to art full time in 1993.

Both sculptor and painter, his knowledge of animal anatomy has served him well. Of his sculptures, Shinabarger says, “My armature is based on the skeleton, then I work my way out. Taxidermy taught me to see, which is the first thing an artist needs to learn.”

Shinabarger’s paintings follow a different path from his sculpture. His landscapes begin as small field studies which he later develops into larger pieces depicting men and animals at work and play in the West he loves.

Today, Tim lives with his wife in Montana, where he maintains his studio.
