"I live on Padre Island, not far from the wintering ground of the Whooping Cranes, North America's tallest and most spectacular bird. It's an unforgettable experience to see their dance on a misty spring morning before their flight to their nesting grounds in Canada.
More than any, Whooping Cranes illustrate the plight of endangered species; but fortunately here is one of the few great success stories. Through heroic conservation efforts they've been brought back form near extinction to presently more than 120 breeding birds in the world. The name of the sculpture is of course in homage to Stravinsky's 'Le Sacre du Printemps.'"
